Compare Car Insurance Quotes

One of the biggest hits & moneyspinners in recent years has been the emergence of price comparison websites. The gist of what happens (in the context of insurance) is that you put in your private car and personal information which you would normally have to provide a car insurance company with, and then the comparison website will (automatically) present multiple insurance companies with your info, on your behalf, and then present you with quotes from those same companies.
Do you pay the company for doing this?
Well, yes and no. The price comparison company is payed by the insurance company (often a set fee) for any customer that takes out a policy with them. In this way it seems to be good for both the customer (in that they are having insurance companies compete for their business) and also for the insurance company, as they can have a specific, and no risk budget for creating business. A win all round really.
It can sometimes be worth using a number of different companies to compare prices with, as well as trying to find some companies who do not use these sites at all, as they may, at times, be able to keep their prices down by not having to py the middle man his commission.
